When it came to planning their sunrise elopement at Blue Ridge Parkway, there was nothing more than Sandy and Josh wanted than to have an intimate ceremony. Sandy and Josh said “I do” beneath the glowy and golden sunrise, surrounded by friends and family in Pisgah National Forest.
Everyone met up just before sunrise to enjoy the cool of the morning, the semi-darkness, and the sounds of birds and wind in the trees. It truly was so peaceful and enchanting.
Before the start of the ceremony, Sandy and Josh spent a few minutes alone, breathing deeply and settling in. Naturally, they were both a little bit nervous, so I suggested they slow down and refocus. Not only will I photograph your adventure elopement, but I will make sure you remain calm too! At one point Sandy said, “I feel like we’re doing yoga.” That’s the idea! It’s always helpful to stop and focus your head and your heart before your ceremony! Plus, it truly helps ease any of those pre-ceremony jitters.
Sandy floated down the aisle made of soft grass, in her whimsical white dress. The ceremony was very emotional and everyone was reaching for the tissues. Sandy was especially overcome with emotion – it was incredible being able to document this special moment for her! Sandy and Josh exchanged heartfelt vows to each other just as the sun was rising.
What made the ceremony extra special was that Sandy’s best friend married them. One great benefit of planning a laidback elopement is that you can incorporate your closest family and friends in special ways – such as having them officiate your wedding or hiking up to the mountains together!
After the ceremony, Sandy and Josh opened the trunk of their car which was stocked full of Dunkin’ coffee and donuts! While everyone enjoyed the treats, they shared stories about Sandy and Josh, while they all laughed, cried, and enjoyed the gorgeous view before heading down the mountain.
Then, it was time for the epic adventure shots that they were stoked to get! Sandy, Josh, and I set off on an adventure, hiking to the top of a nearby mountain for portraits and a little just-married time together.
This sunrise elopement at Blue Ridge Parkway was both sweet and adventurous. Looking for more emotional moments? Check out this touching Black Balsam Knob elopement here.
