Ashley and Andrews fairytale wedding at Stonefield Castle was one of the most unique and gorgeous weddings I’ve had the pleasure of photographing. I’ve always wanted to see the gorgeous country of Scotland and call myself a Scotland wedding photographer, so when Ashley emailed me about their Scotland wedding I could hardly contain myself. Ashley started her day with a few of her closest friends helping her get ready. She did her own hair and makeup (I actually got to help with her hair, which is one of the most fun parts of being a destination wedding photographer…sometimes you get to pitch in in different roles!), slipped into her gorgeous custom silver gown from Weekend Wedding Dress, and then tied on her hiking boots and set off into the mist to meet her husband-to-be. They had their first look in a gorgeous green wooded glen on an island; just the two of them. The woods were quiet and still but for the rustle of Ashley’s dress as she approached her forever partner, called his name, and then ran to him. Andrew is a fairly stoic and calm man, so seeing him crack a smile as she approached him was truly a special moment. We then got to spend nearly an hour exploring the island, climbing on rocks, wading through tall grass, and walking beneath huge mossy trees. I can really see how, if one lived in such a place, one could believe in fairies.
As the day wore on, the drizzle started, and these two said their vows in the cozy library of the castle overlooking the loch. Again, the moments of emotion Andrew showed were precious and genuine and it was a sweet, quiet, but joyous ceremony. The guests then retired to the bar for whiskey and canapés and we explored inside the castle, and the staff even provided Andrew with a sword (later used to cut the cake) so he could truly get in touch with his inner Scottish lord.
After dinner, toasts, and a little dancing, the full moon came out in all her glory (something Ashley had been hoping for ever since they set their wedding date), and everyone’s favorite property manager (We love you Stuart!) let us out onto the roof of the castle for some moonlit portraits to cap off the night.
It was a truly magical wedding. Scotland wedding photographer
